Message from the Secretary General of the Award
The late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, along with the founding fathers, established the United Arab Emirates in 1971 on the principles of love, tolerance, and acceptance at the heart of its social and economic values. Today, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, carry on the same legacy.
Our nation believes that tolerance is the backbone of stability and the development of all civilizations, religions and cultures. This principle was adopted and implemented by the country since its very inception. The issuance of Anti-Discrimination and Hatred Act and the launch of the International Institute for Tolerance in Dubai, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Tolerance and the 2019 Year of Tolerance are all testament to the country’s belief in peaceful coexistence. Today, the UAE is a country that inspires the world to accept and respect all sects and religions and spread the principles of peace as a cultural and human heritage.
The objectives of the Institute and the Award is to emphasize the importance of promoting and consolidating the universal human values of peace, tolerance, dialogue, respect for pluralism and acceptance of one another for the achievement of world peace and coexistence among human beings. The Award also promotes the creation of an enlightenment movement through awareness of tolerance, and the Islamic religion, which calls for the spread of love, peace and coexistence among all, as the noblest elements of successful societies aspire to achieve stability and progress.
The unique cohesion and fusion of more than 200 nationalities in the UAE is a result of the originality and heritage of the UAE’s social fabric, which reflects the wise vision of its great and visionary leaders.
